Begonia began with a chance encounter with a densely planted summer flower bed, where vivid reds and yellow sat amongst much softer pink, white and green. The painting keeps that sense of abundance, but arranges it into a more deliberate botanical composition, with the stronger blooms balanced by paler flowers and detailed foliage.

Its bright palette would work especially well against warm neutrals, natural wood or traditional interiors, and may appeal to someone who enjoys expressive colour without losing the delicacy and precision of botanical watercolour.
